Unwaged or Low Waged – Pay What You Can!

Your chance to see SIX of the UK’s best spoken word performers.

Spoken word is the new rock’n’roll. It’s loud and belligerent, it’s authentic and streetwise, it’s scary and it’s laugh out loud funny.

it’s like the best fairground ride you’ve ever been on, it’s like the loudest, punkiest gig you’ve ever seen, it’s like watching your favourite band, comedian, actor and writer all in one go.

The six of the best are –

Gerry Potter is an author, poet, playwright, actor and director. Gerry is creator of Chloe Poems, the infamous gay, Scouse, Socialist, gingham-clad, drag queen diva. Gerry is one of the most radical forces in performance poetry. With panache and style, spirit and belligerence, wit and charm, humour and warmth, he will amuse, move, inspire, provoke and stimulate.

Jim Higo is a writer, poet and performer. Multiple slam winner, BBC commissioned and writer and performer of numerous critically acclaimed poetry/comedy shows. Hilarious, furious and brilliant, one of the best poetry performers in the country. With side-splitting poems and rants dipped in dripping and cynicism, he leaves no pretension un-shamed and no pomposity un-pricked.

Kat Spence is a poet and artist. Hailed as one of the best new performers around, she tackles both the large and minute issues of everyday life with passion, skill and originality. Kat’s spoken word is intelligent, engrossing and always wonderfully entertaining. Kat’s unique and compelling words take you on a journey from hilarious to serious, from trivial to momentous, from playful to profound.

Ian Killen is a writer, performer and storyteller. One of the greatest storytellers around, Ian takes you into a world of sex, drugs and rock’n’roll, of indie bands and record shops, of petty crime and teenage dreams. His stories are funny, poignant, touching and emotional, with laugh out loud punchlines, wistful musings and beautifully crafted storylines.

Johnny Moorhead is a brilliant performer, playwright and stand-up poet, who integrates clown comedy and dark images to spin stories and mesmerize audiences. Hailing from the Borderlands of Northern Ireland, Johnny’s poems brilliantly bring to life a young man’s journey through the highs and lows of growing up in a divided community.

Peter Knaggs is a writer/editor and author of five poetry books. Pete’s poetry is exceptional and inimitable and brings to life the everyday and the mundane in a uniquely distinctive way. Peter puts a wry, ironic, intelligent and hilarious slant on ordinary life with poems that come at you from angles you never knew existed.
